The Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association has called on the Federal Government to recruit Veterinary Doctors into the state and federal civil service. The President of the association, Dr Olutoyin Catherine Adetuberu made the call at the Annual summit and Investiture ceremony in Abuja.
She said most states in the country are short of Veterinary Doctors as some have only two.
The president however, urge the government to do the needful by recruiting atlest two Veterinary Doctors in all the local governments in the country other to ensure public health.
Dr. Olutoyin further identified need to curb the activities of quacks that is ravaging the profession by making professional vet doctors availabilitity In his remarks, the keynote speaker Dr Samuel Adeyemi who attributed quackery in Nigeria to the activities of banditry and insurgency said displacement of people from one place to another gave rise to the menace.
He then recommended steps to be taken by government to sanitise the profession. High point of the event was the presentation of awards to the Director General, Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service, Dr Vincent Isegbe and the keynote speaker, Dr Samuel Adeyemi. The Theme of the summit is ” Curbing the manace of quackery in the Veterinary profession in Nigeria”
