The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has assured residents of the Federal Capital Territory of it’s commitment to protect the integrity of the forth coming Area council election slated for Saturday,22 February 2022.
INEC Chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu gave the indication in Abuja at a Stakeholders’ meeting organized by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCDA). Prof Yakubu said the commission has put in place measures to ensure a peaceful outcome of election adding that the Biometric Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) would be deployed for the exercise.
The INEC boss also gave a breakdown of candidates and political parties contesting for respective positions in the various area Councils in the capital territory. Prof Yakubu further matched his word with action with a warning for persons planning to foment trouble during the election.
Meanwhile, the Senator representing the FCT at the National Assembly, Senator Philip Aduda in his remarks called for calm insisting on transparency of the electoral process.
The stakeholders meeting coordinated by the FCT minister, Mohammed Bello was attended by Party chieftains, traditional rulers, civil society organizations and other relevant electoral stakeholders in the FCT.
