The Federal Government says the ongoing remediation of Ogoniland would continue even after the exit of the present administration as measures have been put in place to that effect. The Minister of State for Environment Sharon Ikeazor disclosed this in a press briefing on environmental sector and priorities areas of the ministry. Ikeazor who disclosed that the total volume of contaminated soil to be remediated was 5,354,766 cubic meters over an area of about 314 acres,added that the project which was flagged-off by President Muhammadu Buhari in 2016 has continued to record success despite challenges. Other gains of the project as highlighted by the minister includes remarkable employment and livelihood opportunities among Ogoni youths. Ealier in his remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry Engr Hassan Musa, said the Ministry is collaborating with MDAs, states and local governments to tackle environmental concerns in the country. The briefing further emphasize the need for focus in evolving innovations strategies to improve the nation’s environmental sector.
