The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC is soliciting media advocacy against the trend of double registration in the ongoing continuous voter registration exercise across the country ahead the 2023 general election. INEC Chairman, Prof Mahmud Yakubu made the appeal at the first quarterly consultative meeting with media executives held at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja. Yakubu who said the commission with the aid of a new device, discovered about 15,000 double registration from the 40,000 newly registered voters in the federal capital territory,reiterated zero tolerance on efforts to sanitize the national voters register. Responding on behalf of the media, the President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Comrade Chris Isiguzo represented by the National Treasurer, Atubi Bamidele commended INEC for digital initiatives to improve the nation’s electoral process.
