Kanu Objects To Fresh FG’s Charges As Court Adjourns Till Jan.19

The detained leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu has objected to his taking of fresh plea on the ground that the Federal Government did not give him enough time to study the 15 count amended charges filed against him. Kanu made this known through a lawyer he newly engaged, Chief Mike Ozekhome, Senior Advocate of Nigeria to fortify his defense in the fresh terrorism charges. Kanu’s complaint prompted the trial judge, justice Binta Nyaku of the Federal High Court Abuja to adjourn further proceedings till January 19 to enable his team of lawyers study the new charges. Mike Ozekhome, a constitutional lawyer and human rights activist who is leading the defence team further accused the Federal Government of denying his client the necessary facility to defend the charges against him. But the prosecution counsel, Shuaibu Labaran denied the allegation, accusing the defence team of employing delay tactics to frustrate the trial Kanu is being prosecuted by the federal government for alleged treasonable felony and involvement in terrorism activities.
