Electoral Bill: IPAC Demands Expulsion Of Direct Primary Clause.

The Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has advocated need for amicable resolution of the controversy surrounding the Direct Primary clause in the 2021 electoral act amendment bill as passed by the National Assembly.

The Council at a news conference by it’s newly elected leadership commended the National Assembly for undertaking the task to give Nigerians an electoral system that will strengthen the nation’s democratic governance.

IPAC chairman, Alhaji Yagbaji Sani however supported the reasons as indicated by president Buhari on the controversial clause, advising the lawmakers to do the needful for the sake of national interest.

The council further questioned the trend of defections in the nation’s political system citing several provisions, and called on the National assembly and the judiciary to both work out an appropriate standard that will address the act.

It also disclosed plans to establish a pan African democracy institute with mandate to build capacities on democracy with bias on African peculiar characteristics.
