Obasanjo, Sultan, Others Advise Buhari On Ways To Fight Insecurity, Banditry, Kidnappings
Former Nigerian President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has expressed dismay over the growing state of insecurity and violent crimes in the country.
This was contained in a communique made available to Channel Network Afrique at the end of a retreat on Inclusive Security organized by the Global Peace Foundation in collaboration with Vision Africa in Abuja.
He said the government must show political will to tackle the menace headlong as high prevalence of violent crisis and kidnappings in the country are driven largely by social injustice and a failed economy.
The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar and the President, Christian Association of Nigeria, Ayokunle Olasupo Adeniyi, who could not agree less with the former President said security is one of the cardinal responsibilities of government.
They added that government must wake up to its responsibility of securing the lives and properties of the citizens.
The Convener, Vision Africa, Bishop Sunday Onuoha, said the purpose of the retreat was to bring stakeholders together to address critical issues and seek lasting solutions to the challenges facing Nigeria.
Some of the issues discussed among the stakeholders were, high prevalence of insecurity, hunger and starvation in the country, the role of religious leaders in moral rearmament, national development with a focus on youths and the education sector.
