The National Primary Healthcare Development Agency on collaboration with the National Agency For Food and Drug Administration and Control, (NAFDAC) has destroyed about 1,066,214 doses of expired AstraZeneca Vaccines.
Executive Director, NPHCDA, Faisal Shuiab, performed the official handover of the expired AstraZeneca Vaccines for destruction at the Gosa Dump Site, to the Director General of NAFDAC in Abuja.
They are part of the 2,594,100 doses of Vaccines received through Covax facility on the 11th and 29th October 2021. Dr Faisal who expressed regret over the development, clarified that some of the vaccines came with a short life span.
On her part, the Director-General of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye said the decision to destroy the vaccines followed several testing processes that were conducted.
However, recent statistics released by the NPHCDA indicates that about ten million Nigerians have so far been vaccinated with the Covid-19 vaccine.
This the agency indicated that if sustained will enhance the nation’s effort to meet its target of vaccinating 110 million Nigerians.
