As Nigeria concludes activities to commemorate the International Human Rights Day, the United States government has assured of necessary support against human rights abuses in the country.
The US Ambassador to Nigeria, Mary Beth gave the indication at a lecture Organised by the National Human Rights Commission in Abuja.
The envoy who stated the US government commitment to a world where human rights are protected, and those who commit to such rights are held accountable, said such interventions are best accomplished working with allies and partners across the globe.
This she noted is critical to reasons why the rights of the citizenry must count.
Others speakers including the chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission Bar Salamatu Husseini highlighted the role of the theme of this year edition of the IHRD to article 1 of the Universal Declaration of Human rights of 194
Earlier in his opening remarks, the Executive Secretary of NHRC Tony Ojukwu, disclosed several activities of the commission to promote human rights in the country.
The ceremony ended with presentation of awards to some notable people for their roles in promoting human rights.
