Tuberculosis: Nigeria Could record 200% Increase In Case Notifications- Ehanire

Indications from available statistics reveals that over 245,000 Nigerians die every year from tuberculosis with about 590,000 new cases of which 140,000 are HIV Positive. This trend ranks Nigeria third behind India and China in TB related cases with the disease responsible for more than 10 percent of all deaths in the country. For the Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, all hope is not lost as the federal government is committed to change the narrative. The minister who stated this at the 2021 National TB Conference in Abuja expressed optimism that Nigeria may record 200% increase in tuberculosis case notifications by the end of 2021. On his part, the acting Board Chairman Stop TB Partnership Nigeria, Ayodele Awe affirmed the success recorded in tackling TB in Nigeria despite the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Other speakers took turns to applaud the partnership between the government and stakeholders to end the pandemic.
