The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has petition the Interior Minister, Rauf Aregbesola for what they termed as compromising the integrity of the nations Prison system. The Group in the petition to president Muhammadu Buhari says the minister is politically distracted. National Coordinator, HURIWA Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko at a news conference in Abuja lamented at the trend of frequent prison breaks across various correctional Centres, noting that the development portends serious security threat in the country. The Group further raised concerns over the failure of the minister to deploy personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC) to protect correctional Centres across the country. Investigation by HURIWA reveals that jail breaks in the last 18 months in Nigeria is adjudged to be the highest so far in the cycle of any administration since the return of civil rule in 1999.
