The federal government has indicated plans to implement the recent directive that workers under it’s payroll will from December 1, 2021 show evidence of Covid 19 vaccination to gain access into their offices. Minister of Health Dr Osagie Ehinare stated this at a ministerial news conference on the update of Covid 19 pandemic response and health sector development in Abuja. He expressed optimism that the directive will increase demand for Covid 19 vaccine hence the need by the ministry to come up with several measures to enhance access and also security features of the Covid-19 Vaccination card. The minister further disclose that Nigeria recently received 3,577,860 doses of Pfizer vaccines from the US government, an indication that implies the country have adequate vaccines to cover more than 50 percent of eligible population by the end of the first quarter of 2020 As expected the cholera outbreak also featured at the briefing with a representative from the ministry stating that as at 1st October a total of 88,704 suspected cases and 3,208 have been reported from 31 states including the FCT. Other takeaways indicates that as at 17 October this year, over 5 million eligible population have received their first dose while 2,665 others have been vaccinated with the second dose.
