Anambra Guber: INEC Convenes Election Security Meeting, Raises Alarm Over Violence, Killings.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)has expressed worry over the unabated spate of violence and killings in Anambra State ahead the 6th November Governorship Election. Speaking at an emergency meeting of the Inter Agency consultative committee on election security convened by the commission at it’s headquarters in Abuja, INEC Chairman,Prof Mahmood Yakubu said never before in the nation’s history has the importance of election security in a Governorship election been this urgent. This he disclosed is inview of several infractions to the build up of the poll,which at present is snowballing into a major threat to the safety of voters and election duty staff including security officials who unfortunately have also become targets of the attacks. Having stated the obvious, the INEC boss assured that the commission is determined to proceed with the election as scheduled. Meanwhile, the National Security Adviser, General Babagana Mongunu represented by Sanusi Galadinma affirmed that the security and intelligence agencies are working closely to check the violent activities of the separatists group in the south east. The meeting which is the second to be convened in the last four weeks is expected to come up with strategies that will initiate a conducive environment for the conduct of the Anambra Governorship election.
