FG Begins Survey On Impact Of COVID-19 On MSMEs, Businesses

The Federal Government has commenced another round of survey on the impact of the Corona Virus Pandemic on businesses especially the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, MSMEs. The survey to be carried out by the National Bureau of Statistics and the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria was last done in 2017 after the initial once of 2010 and 2013. Addressing news men on the significance of the survey to the nation’s economy, the Statistician General of the Federation, Yemi Kale said the fourth round of the exercise covering 2019 and 2020 will seek to identify how MSMEs coped during the period under review. The Director General, SMEDAN, Dikko Radda said one major factor militating against development and growth in the sub-sector is the absence of up-to-date and useable data of MSMEs. He however, acknowledged need to having operational framework to guide the development of the MSMEs sub-sector. The 2019-2020 Survey on selected MSMEs, will be carried out across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territorial, Abuja.
