Nigeria is expected to receive about 176,000 doses of the Johnson and Johnson Covid 19 vaccine out of the 29,850,000 doses procured by the Federal Government from AFREXIM Bank. Executive Director, National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr NPHCDA Faisal Shuaib who disclosed this at a press conference in Abuja said the J & J vaccine which will be expected by Wednesday August 11,2021 is a single shot vaccine. According to Dr Shuaib the J & J vaccine like the AstraZeneca is safe and efficient and will boost Nigeria’s fight against COVID-19 with the Delta variant sparking fears of a third wave of the pandemic. The NPHCDA boss further indicated that the Vaccination exercise expected to be rolled out from Monday August 16 will target Nigerians living in hard to reach areas. He however assured Nigerians that the Agency has done it’s home work to ensure there are no hiccups. Meanwhile,Nigerians have been adviced to continue to observe the non pharmaceutical measures of wearing of facemask, maintaining physical distance and hand hygiene among other Covid 19 protocols.
