The operations of the North East Development Commission have come under the scrutiny of civil society organisations with no fewer than 21 of them passing a vote of confidence in the agency especially in the areas of accountability and transparency. The CSOs under the auspices of the Coalition of Human Rights Groups and Independent Monitors which made this known at a press conference in Abuja, said it came to this conclusion after a systematic appraisal of the activities of the agency. According to the report, the Commission under the leadership of its Managing Director Mohammed Alkali, has been outstanding in the areas of project implementation, organisational structure among others. In the report co-signed by convener, Comrade Bassey Ukpong, secretary, Barr Joy Gonzwak alongside the heads of other groups, the CSOs hailed the Commission for its strategic interventions, urging international partners to maintain their relationship with the agency. As part of its recommendation, the group however, urged the North East Development Commission to constantly engage critical media constituency in carrying out its various interventions in the region
