The Federal Government has threatened to prosecute anyone, institution or business organisation both local and multinationals that contravenes its consumer act leading to abuse of consumer rights in the country.
The Executive Vice Chairman, Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, Babatunde Irukera read the riot act in Abuja at an engagement with Supermarket Officials to sensitise them on the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act and other extant laws.
Represented by the Executive Commissioner, Corporate Services, Adamu Abdullahi at the physical and virtual meeting, the EVC said the ongoing engagement with super market operators is to ensure that they sale quality products and avoid being at the wrong side of the law.
Some FCCPC Management staff also spoke at the engagement.
The FCCPC meeting is one of many ways the agency interface with stakeholders through its consumer education department to sensitise them on what is required of them while dealing with consumers.
