There is no doubt that Teachers are the bedrock of any nation. According to the Registrar, Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria, TRCN, Prof Josiah Ajigboye the gesture if well harnessed will help drive policies that will place Nigeria at it’s righful place among committees of Nations. The TRCN boss made the remarks while declaring open a one-day workshop Organised by the Education Correspondents Association of Nigeria ECAN at Karu, Nasarawa state. Prof Ajiboye who lamented that several economic factors had placed the profession at a disadvantage position over the years, however commended the efforts by President Mohammadu Buhari to change the narrative through introduction of several policies aimed at restoring it’s lost glory. He gesture and other interventions he noted is driving the Councils zero stand on Professionalism of the teaching profession. In his welcome remarks, the Chairman of ECAN Mr Chuks Ukwuatu, called on journalists to ensure adequate reportage of education stories to foster development in other sectors. He further commended TRCN for its role in ensuring excellence in the education professionalism of teachers. The theme of the one day workshop is ” Professionalism of Teaching and Teacher Education in Nigeria”.
