COVID 19: NAFDAC Okays Astrazeneca Vaccine For Use In Nigeria

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has approved the use of the Oxford/AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine for emergency use in Nigeria. The Director-General of NAFDAC, Dr. Mojisola Adeyeye, who made the announcement while addressing journalists at the Agency’s headquarters in Abuja, said that the vaccine can be stored in temperatures between two to eight degrees centigrade. She explained that there are three additional vaccines currently at various levels of testing, however, evaluation on the Astrazeneca vaccine showed effectiveness against the UK variant of the virus, which was reported in Nigeria. On if the South African variant of the virus is yet to be reported in Nigeria, the Minister had this to say. The NAFDAC boss further disclosed that over thirty herbal remedies for Covid 19 are presently undergoing review by the Agency.
