There is no doubt that past and resent elections in Nigeria have been characterized by incidents of violence among other electoral crimes. This is inspite of various measures put in place by the independent national electoral commission (INEC) to reverse the trend. At a ceremony to present the final report on the 2020 Edo and Ondo states Governorship election, Electoral rights group, Kimpact Developement Initiative (KDI) wants the federal government to intensify more efforts to address the worrisome development. According to the KDI Executive Director, though both elections were tagged peaceful, there were records of violence before, during and after the polls. On the way forward, the group advocates for a review of the electoral act for the prosecution of offenders. They further added that the amendment will further add value to the conduct of credible elections in Nigeria.
