The National Taskforce to combat illegal importation of small arms, ammunitions, light weapons, chemical weapons and pipeline vandalism is a private initiative established to compliment the efforts of security agencies to curb the menace of illicit trade in illegal arms and other sophisticated weapons across the nation’s porous borders. To ensure it succeeds in its mandate, the National Taskforce sponsored a bill in the National Assembly that seeks to checkmate the illegal movement and possession of small arms and light weapons. Speaking with newsmen in Abuja, Acting Director General of the National Taskforce, Mallam Musa Mohammed while soliciting the quick passage of the bill says it is the answer to the nation’s security challenges. Mohammed who just assumed the position of acting Director General of the body is not a happy man. He however called on President Mohammed Buhari to give nod to the activities of the National Taskforce going by its achievements especially in the arrests of persons involved in the illicit trade of small arms and light weapons among others.
