Nigeria’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Spain, Dr Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to national development and stronger bilateral relations with Spain as the country marked its 66th Independence Anniversary in Madrid.

Speaking at a reception to commemorate the anniversary, Ikpeazu congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Nigerians at home and abroad, particularly members of the Nigerian community in Spain.

The ambassador paid tribute to Nigeria’s founding nationalists and patriots, saying their sacrifices secured the country’s freedom and continue to inspire efforts at nation-building.

He described Nigeria as Africa’s most populous nation and one of its largest economies, noting that the country remains rich in human talent, cultural diversity and natural resources.

He also highlighted Nigeria’s democratic institutions, youthful population and contributions to peace, security and development across Africa.

Ikpeazu said the anniversary provided an opportunity to reflect on the growing relationship between Nigeria and Spain, which he said is built on mutual respect, constructive dialogue and expanding cooperation in trade, investment, education, culture and people-to-people exchanges.

According to him, Spanish companies, including GB Foods, have continued to find opportunities in Nigeria’s market, while Nigerians living in Spain contribute significantly to the country’s social and economic development.

The ambassador identified renewable energy, infrastructure, agriculture, technology and the creative industries as sectors with strong potential for increased collaboration between both countries.

Addressing Nigerians in Spain, he commended their contributions and urged them to remain united, law-abiding and committed to projecting a positive image of Nigeria.

On the country’s economic outlook, Ikpeazu said the administration of President Tinubu remains focused on reforms aimed at economic diversification, improved governance and inclusive growth.

While acknowledging existing economic challenges, he expressed optimism that Nigeria would continue to make progress by harnessing the energy of its youth, the creativity of its people and the strength of its diversity.

He also assured potential investors that Nigeria would continue to create opportunities for investment and business-to-business partnerships.

The ambassador called on Nigerians to renew their commitment to building a peaceful, prosperous and respected nation as the country celebrates another year of independence.
