The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) says it has renovated more than 4,000 classrooms and commissioned 1,074 digital learning centres across the country.

The Executive Secretary of UBEC, Dr Aisha Garba, disclosed this during a tour of renovated schools and a digital learning centre in Abuja.

Garba said the renovation programme was aimed at improving learning conditions and establishing minimum standards for basic education infrastructure across the country.

The UBEC Boss also provided insight into the commission’s decision to adopt a whole-school approach to its interventions, under which schools requiring support are comprehensively assessed to determine their specific needs.

Earlier, the Director of Physical Planning at UBEC, Arch. Nura Ibrahim, said the commission had targeted schools in remote and forested areas that were experiencing serious infrastructural deficiencies.

UBEC also indicated that more than 2,000 schools had received a facelift since the administration of President Bola Tinubu came into office more than three years ago.
The assessment covers classrooms, furniture, toilets, water supply, electricity and security, among other facilities.
