The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Kano Region, has attributed the ongoing power outage along the 132kV Kumbotso–Dan Agundi Line 1 to damage caused by heavy rainfall and strong winds.
TCN said the line tripped on an earth fault at about 10:05 p.m. on Monday, September 22, 2026, during the adverse weather conditions.
In a statement, the company said the line was immediately isolated to enable its maintenance crew to conduct a thorough patrol and identify the source of the fault.
According to TCN, the patrol, completed on Tuesday, September 23, found a tilted cross-arm and a snapped conductor at two separate locations between Towers T707 and T708.
It said the damaged cross arm must first be removed and reinstalled before the necessary repairs can be completed.
To reduce the impact of the outage on electricity consumers and businesses across Kano metropolis, TCN said it had transferred the allocated loads from the 33kV feeders at the 132kV Dan Agundi Transmission Substation to other available 132kV substations within the Kano Electricity Distribution Company franchise area.
The company said the measure was intended to minimise the effect of the forced outage while repair works continue.
“TCN apologises for the inconvenience this forced outage has caused and assures affected consumers that efforts are ongoing to carry out the necessary repairs and restore normal bulk power supply as soon as possible,” the statement said.
TCN did not give a specific timeline for the completion of the repairs but said its maintenance team was working to restore normal bulk power supply.
