The Chairman of Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State, Hon. Nura Umar Abdullahi, and four other kidnap victims have escaped from terrorist captivity and were received by troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA.
The victims escaped in the early hours of Thursday in the general area of Kaura Namoda Local Government Area during an intelligence-led operation targeting a suspected terrorist location.
Troops deployed in the area secured the victims, provided protection and evacuated them to a military medical facility for treatment, evaluation and routine debriefing.
According to the Media Information Officer of Joint Task Force (North West), Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, Hon. Abdullahi was abducted from his residence in Bungudu town in July 2026.
He said one of the rescued victims has already been reunited with his family, while arrangements are being made to reunite the others with their families and the Zamfara State Government.
The Theatre Command commended the courage and resilience of the victims in regaining their freedom after a prolonged period in captivity and praised troops for their vigilance and professionalism in securing them.
It described the victims’ return as a welcome relief to their families, the people of Bungudu Local Government Area and Zamfara State.
The command also reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining clearance and dominance operations across the North West theatre to disrupt terrorist activities, protect communities and facilitate the safe return of other persons still in captivity or unaccounted for.
It urged members of the public to continue supporting security efforts by providing timely and credible information to the military and other security agencies.
