The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has commenced the rehabilitation of four transmission towers vandalised along the Afam-IPP–Elelenwo 132kV Double Circuit Transmission Line.
The affected Towers T50 to T53 were discovered damaged on August 6, 2026, by TCN lines engineers from the Port Harcourt Region. The tower members had been removed and carted away by vandals.
According to TCN, the latest incident marks the fifth vandalism attack on the same transmission line in recent times, raising concerns over the impact of repeated attacks on the stability of electricity supply and the national grid.
TCN said rehabilitation work is currently ongoing to restore the affected towers and ensure the integrity of the transmission line.
The company appealed to stakeholders, communities and relevant authorities to collaborate in tackling the growing threat of infrastructure vandalism, stressing the need to protect critical transmission assets and safeguard the stability of the national grid.
