The Tinubu Media Volunteers (TMV) has strongly welcomed the Federal Government’s increase in the salaries of armed forces personnel, describing the move as a timely intervention that will strengthen troop morale and enhance Nigeria’s capacity to confront terrorism and other security threats.

In a statement signed by its Chairman, Chukwudi Enekwechi, and Secretary, Segun Ogedengbe, the group said the salary increase, ranging between 30 per cent and 80 per cent, represents a significant dividend of the reforms of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

According to the group, officers from the rank of Colonel to General will receive a 30 per cent increase, while other categories of military personnel will benefit from higher adjustments.

TMV described the salary review as long overdue, given the difficult conditions under which members of the armed forces operate and the growing security challenges confronting the country.

“We consider the pay rise as long overdue, especially with the numerous security challenges confronting the country. There is no doubt that the Federal Government’s gesture will boost the morale of the personnel to put in their best in the discharge of their onerous responsibilities,” the group said.

The group argued that improved remuneration would not only strengthen the welfare of troops but also encourage greater commitment among personnel deployed to the frontlines against terrorists and other violent criminals.
TMV said the decision was particularly important amid rising living costs, noting that members of the armed forces, like other Nigerians, are facing higher prices of food and other essential commodities.
“There is no doubt that the armed forces personnel who are at the frontlines of confronting the terrorists and other violent criminals deserve an enhanced pay package, more so when the economy is beset with inflation in food items and other essential goods,” it said.

They expressed confidence that better remuneration, combined with improved operational support, would enhance the effectiveness of the military in fulfilling its constitutional responsibility of protecting the nation.
It also recalled that the Tinubu administration had procured various categories of military equipment as part of efforts to improve the operational capacity of the armed forces and strengthen the fight against insecurity.

TMV said the latest salary increase should therefore be viewed as part of a broader effort to improve both the welfare and effectiveness of military personnel.
The group maintained that adequately remunerated and properly equipped troops would be better positioned to confront terrorist threats, protect communities and restore lasting security across the country.

They urged the armed forces to reciprocate the government’s investment in their welfare by remaining professional, disciplined and committed to the protection of Nigerians and the territorial integrity of the country.
