Breaking: Senator Orji Kalu Bags 12 Years Imprisonment, Found Guilty Of Fraud, Money Laundering

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has sentenced former Governor of Abia state and majority whip of the senate, Orji Kalu, to 12 years’ imprisonment. Kalu was found guilty of fraud and money laundering to the tune of N7.2 billion. The court convicted the senator, on all 39 count charges preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission alongside former Commissioner for Finance, in the state Jones Udeogo, and his company, Slok Nigeria Limited. While the ex-governor and his company also were found guilty of all charges, Udeogo was convicted on 34 counts and sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment. The court however ordered that Slok Nig. Ltd. be wound up and its assets forfeited to the Federal Government. Orji Uzor Kalu was a former governor of Abia state from 1999 to 2007.
