The Association of Corporate Editors (ACOE) has called on Nigerian youths to reject political violence and actively participate in the upcoming 2027 general elections.
The call was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja by ACOE Chairman, Sola Akingboye, to mark the 2026 International Youth Day.
Akingboye highlighted the critical role young people play in driving Nigeria’s social, economic, and political development. He urged the youth to remain focused, resilient, and dedicated to national growth while avoiding political thuggery and other social vices capable of derailing their future.
He noted that while Nigerian youths possess the energy and creativity required to foster positive change, they need deliberate mentorship and platforms from the older generation to maximize their potential. He urged older citizens and leaders to create opportunities for young talent to thrive.
Emphasizing the importance of civic responsibility, the ACOE leader stated that active youth involvement in democratic processes and governance is vital to ensuring their interests are adequately represented in national policy-making.
Akingboye also commended the efforts of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) and the Federal Ministry of Youth Development for their leadership and initiatives aimed at youth empowerment.
He concluded by urging young Nigerians to use the occasion of International Youth Day to recommit to peace, responsible citizenship, and national progress.
