The Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa (Rtd), has lauded the transformation of Alaba International Market, describing it as an emerging technology hub and a vital driver of Nigeria’s economic growth.

Speaking on Friday at the “New Face of Alaba” Gala and Award Night in Ikoyi, Lagos, Musa praised the commissioning of modern commercial complexes at the market, noting that the development reflects the innovation and resilience of the local business community.

Musa commended the leadership of the International Market Association Electronics (IMAE), led by President General High Chief Dr. Camilus Nnamdi Amajuoyi, as well as Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for facilitating the market’s physical and economic evolution.

He highlighted ongoing initiatives within the market to combat counterfeit goods, enforce quality assurance, and promote local manufacturing, stating that these measures strengthen Alaba’s standing as a trusted commercial center across Africa.

Reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to provide a secure environment for commerce, the minister emphasized the direct link between national security and economic prosperity. The statement also highlighted a long-standing relationship between the IMAE and the Nigerian Army spanning several decades, initially brokered by Musa during his earlier military career.

Representing Governor Sanwo-Olu at the event, Lagos State Deputy Governor Kadri Obafemi Hamzat acknowledged the market’s contributions to commerce and employment. Hamzat reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to reconstructing the access road leading to the Alaba International Market to boost accessibility and ease of doing business.

The event concluded with awards presented to key individuals recognized for their contributions to the market’s expansion.
