The Minister of Defence, Rtd. Gen. Christopher Gwabin Musa, has commissioned a newly built Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Administrative Complex in Umuahia, praising Abia State Governor Alex Otti for investing in the nation’s security infrastructure.
Speaking at the ceremony alongside Governor Otti and the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, Musa described the facility as a prime example of strategic collaboration between state governments and national defense institutions.
”National security is a shared responsibility,” Musa said, emphasizing that operational planning, personnel management, and military readiness rely on modern administrative facilities. He praised NAF personnel for their efforts against terrorism, kidnapping, banditry, and crude oil theft, while charging troops stationed at the new base to maintain high standards of civil-military relations.
”We do not want to hear that you are causing problems for the civilian population. Abia is good—make it better, and ensure your presence brings peace and safety to the people,” the Minister instructed the personnel.
Musa further noted that the commissioning builds on momentum from the 60th anniversary commemoration of the late Major General Aguiyi Ironsi and the recent South East Security Summit. He assured residents that recommendations from the summit would be fully implemented to boost regional peace and economic growth.
In his address, titled “Security is a Right,” Governor Otti stated that the project stems from his administration’s goal to secure the state. He also expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for enabling a permanent Air Force presence in Abia State.
Accepting the facility, Air Marshal Aneke assured state leaders that the NAF would make judicious use of the complex and associated assets to expand military coverage across the region.
