The Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) has extended the deadline for the submission of textbooks and other instructional materials for the 2026 Phase I assessment, reassessment and ranking exercise to August 7, 2026, describing it as the final extension.
The Council said the extension, approved by the Federal Ministry of Education, follows the earlier submission deadline of July 3, 2026, and is aimed at encouraging wider participation in the national textbook evaluation exercise while giving publishers, authors and other eligible stakeholders additional time to complete their submissions.
In a statement signed by the Executive Secretary of NERDC, Prof. Salisu Shehu, the Council explained that the decision was taken to enable more participants in the book industry to take part in the 2026 Phase I textbook assessment process.
According to the statement, “This final extension is being granted to ensure broader participation and provide publishers, authors, and other eligible stakeholders with an additional opportunity to complete and submit their materials for participation in the 2026 Phase I textbook assessment, reassessment, and ranking exercise.”
NERDC urged all prospective participants to make use of the final submission window, stressing that all entries must comply with the approved procedures contained in the Textbook Quality Indicators and Submission Guidelines.
The Council noted that the submission guidelines remain unchanged and are available on its official website for intending participants.
It, however, emphasised that the August 7, 2026 deadline is final, warning that no further extension will be granted.
“No further extension will be granted, and late submissions received after the final deadline will not be accepted under any circumstances,” the statement added.
NERDC also appreciated publishers, authors and other stakeholders for their continued cooperation and urged them to comply with the submission requirements to ensure a seamless assessment and ranking process.
