A delegation of elders and top government officials from Nasarawa State on Monday submitted the Expression of Interest and Nomination forms for Governor Abdullahi Sule to contest the Nasarawa North Senatorial seat under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The team, led by former Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Timothy Anjide, stated that the Governor is entering the race following “unanimous” pressure from his constituents, noting that the move initially went against the Governor’s personal wishes.

A Mandate from the People

Speaking to the press after submitting the documents to APC party officials, Mr. Anjide emphasized that the delegation insisted on presenting the forms themselves to demonstrate the public’s commitment to the Governor’s candidacy.

”He has succumbed under great pressure to our demand that he should contest,” Anjide said. “We insisted that to show goodwill—to show that we are the ones that called him—we are here to present it on his behalf.”

The Nasarawa North Senatorial District comprises the Akwanga, Nasarawa Eggon, and Wamba Local Government Areas. According to the delegation, the move to draft the Governor into the legislative race is rooted in a desire for “continuity” of his current development framework.

Focus on Human Capital and Unity

When asked what the Governor aims to achieve in the Red Chamber that he could not accomplish as a Chief Executive, Anjide pointed to Sule’s “untainted vision” for human and capital development. He noted that the Governor’s tenure has been defined by a balance between infrastructural growth and social cohesion.

”He is not going to do anything new other than to use the wealth of experience he has gathered in public affairs… to continue to attract what is best for Nasarawa State,” Anjide explained. He further described Governor Sule as a “golden fish” whose presence in the National Assembly would serve as an asset not just to the state, but to Nigeria as a whole.

The Delegation

The submission team included:

  • Members of the Nasarawa State Executive Council.
  • The Secretary to the State Government (SSG).
  • The Director General of the Abdullahi Sule Campaign Organization.
  • Numerous well-wishers from the Nasarawa North Senatorial Zone.

Party officials received the forms, assuring the delegation of a “level playing ground” in line with APC traditions as the primary elections approach.
