INEC Fixes June 20, For Bye-Elections In Six States

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has fixed Saturday, June 20, 2026, for the conduct of bye elections in six states across the federation.

INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, made this known during the swearing in ceremony of a new National Commissioner, Rear Admiral Jamila Malafa (Rtd.), at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

According to him, the bye elections will be held alongside the Ekiti State Governorship Election and will cover vacancies in senatorial districts, the House of Representatives, and State Houses of Assembly in the affected states.


Earlier,Professor Amupitan while welcoming the new National Commissioner, Rear Admiral Malafa (retired) described her as a seasoned professional with extensive experience in both military service and electoral operations.

In her remarks, Rear Admiral Malafa reaffirmed her commitment to contributing meaningfully to Nigeria’s electoral development.
