ASCSN Crisis Persists As State Chairmen Back Shehu, Fault Court Ruling

13

The leadership crisis in the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria appears far from over, as chairmen from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory have declared support for the Shehu Mohammed-led leadership.

This development comes just days after Justice Rakiya Haastrup of the National Industrial Court in Abuja affirmed Innocent Bola-Audu as the legally elected president of the association.

The ruling was widely expected to end the leadership dispute that has lasted more than four years. However, at a news conference in Abuja, the state chairmen rejected the judgment, describing it as inconsistent with the constitution of the association.

Reading from a communiqué, Lagos State Chairman, Olusegun Balogun, announced a vote of confidence in the Mohammed Shehu leadership.

Also speaking, Chairman of the Office of the Head of Service Unit, Ahmed Sylvester Abba, criticized the court’s reliance on what he described as a “purported” Central Working Committee meeting held via Zoom.

With both sides holding firm, the crisis within the ASCSN shows no immediate sign of resolution.
