Court Restrains CAC, Youth Ministry From Deregistering NYCN.

42

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has issued an order restraining the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and the Ministry of Youth Development from withdrawing the registration certificate of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) or recognizing any alternate leadership pending the hearing of a suit filed by the current NYCN leadership.

Presiding judge, Justice Nyako, ruled that all parties must maintain the status quo until the substantive matter is heard.

The court has fixed October 28, 2025, for the hearing of the suit.

The legal action follows the CAC’s decision on October 7, 2025, to formally withdraw the NYCN’s registration under the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) 2020. The commission cited the Council’s protracted 18-year leadership crisis and repeated violations of its constitution and relevant provisions of CAMA as grounds for the action.

In response, the NYCN—led by its current leadership—approached the Federal High Court, challenging the legality and process of the deregistration.
