The National Association of Scrap and Waste Dealers of Nigeria has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to, as a matter of urgency, set up a special task force to check the current endemic extortions by the police, army, touts and other security agencies on federal highways.

President of the association, Ogbu Uchechukwu who made the appeal at a news conference in Gwagwalada in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, said the act is disheartening as investors hardly get their capital after being ripped dry by the extortionists.

He also said the union will pay a protest visit to each state governor in order to get their buy-in and support in finding a lasting solution to the problem.

The union, in partnership with the Ministry of Mines and Steel Development and that of Industry, Trade and Investment, is also working closely with the Nigerian Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps as well as the Department of State Services, to ensure that the business is not infiltrated by criminals.
