U.S. Polls: Electoral Process Not Perfect, Still Metamorphosing – Envoy
Following the keenly contested 2024 United States of America’s Presidential election by former President, Donald Trump and the incumbent Vice President, Kamala Harris, the U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria, Richard Mills Jr. has commended the electoral process.
He disclosed this at an interactive session with news men, civil society and other stakeholders in Abuja and audience of the American spaces across Nigeria.
Ambassador Mills Jr. who points out that elections are the best way for citizens to shape their government as well as hold the leaders accountable said both America and Nigeria see election as a critical toll to upholding democratic values and good governance.
The first Black President of the League of Women Voters, Carolyn Jefferson-Jenkins, spoke on the evolution of the U.S. electoral process, importance of civic engagement, increasing voter participation among other sundry issues.
For there to be a winner in the United States Presidential election, a candidate must secure Two Hundred and Seventy Votes of the electoral college which consists of Five Hundred and Thirty-Eight Electors.
