Appeal Court Acquits Ex-CJN Onnoghen.

The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has discharged and acquitted the former Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen, from his conviction of false assets declaration by the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) in 2019.

Recall, former President Muhammadu Buhari had on January 25, 2019 suspended Onnoghen from office as the CJN.

Thereafter, the former CJN was convicted by the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, on a six-count corruption charge that was filed against him by the Federal Government.

However, Justice Abba Mohammed who led a three man panel of the court adopted the terms of settlement between the representatives of the federal government and the former CJN.

Counsel to the former CJN, Adegboyega Awomolo commended President Tinubu and the Attorney General of the Federation Lateef Fagbemi for ensuring the resolutions of the issue.

The court further ordered that the four bank accounts of the former CJN that were forfeited to the federal government be returned to him.
