Ondo Guber: Parties To Sign Peace Accord November 8- INEC

Ahead of the Ondo State Governorship election, the Independent National Electoral Commission has announced that political parties and candidates will sign a peace accord on November 8, facilitated by the National Peace Committee, led by former Head of State General Abdulsalami Abubakar.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu who stated this during a quarterly consultative meeting with Civil Society Organisations, at the Commission Headquarters in Abuja said the motive is to ensure a hitchfree electoral process.

Prof Yakubu briefed the CSO’s on modalities put on place by the commission to ensure a free and fair credible election especially as it relates to logistics and deployment of election materials.

The INEC boss also reminded the CSO’s yet to submit reports for the Edo Governorship election to do so or risk withdrawal of election observation accreditation.

In his remarks on behalf of the CSO’s, the Executive Director OJA Development Consult, Jide Ojo, commended INEC on the peaceful conduct of the Edo elections and also urged the commission to address the disturbing trend of result uploads on its portal by unauthorised persons.

Other takeaways from the meeting include plans by the commission to hold Mock accreditation of voters and result upload to the IReV on Wednesday 6th November 2024 in 12 Polling Units across six Local Government Areas in the three Senatorial Districts of Ondo State.
