Ahead of the Edo state Governorship election, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC , Prof Mahmood Yakubu says the commission is prepared for the conduct of the poll.
The INEC Chairman who gave the indication at the third quarter meeting with Political Parties held at the Commission headquarters in Abuja, said with 53 days to the exercise, INEC has recovered from the torrential rainfall that resulted in the severe flooding of its state headquarters in Benin City two months ago.
Prof Yakubu also said the final register for the 2024 governorship elections in Edo and Ondo states are being finalised with the final figures of the two states expected to be published soon.
The INEC boss further Urged the party leaders to demonstrate compliance with the commission’s regulations and guidelines for political parties 2022, especially as it relates to rallies, processions, Campaigns and security.
Responding on behalf of the Political Parties, Chairman of the Inter Party Advisory Council, Yusuf Dantalle called for a hitch-free Governorship election in Edo and Ondo states.
He advocated for amendment of the constitution and electoral act to enable INEC conduct local government elections.
The Council also called for immediate scrapping of the State Independent Electoral Commissions, SIECs.
