The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, FCCPC, says it will not hesitate to sanction any multinational, group and individuals that infringe on the rights of consumers in the country.
The Acting Executive Vice Chairman, FCCPC, Dr Adamu Abdullahi disclosed this at a news conference in Abuja to present the commission’s scorecard of the last seven months.
He said some defaulters including the British American Tobacco, Nigeria at different times were sanctioned for various infractions and were made to pay fines in hundreds of thousands of United States’ dollars to the federal government.
FCCPC boss also spoke on other sundry issues including the recent Dangote’s refinery imbroglio and alleged monopoly.
The Acting FCCPC Executive Vice Chairman further pointed out measures being put in place to check unprofessional practices like price gouging and hoarding by businesses in the country.
Dr. Abdullahi however, re-emphasized the commission’s commitment towards promoting competition as well as protecting consumers in Nigeria.
