The Federal Government has inaugurated the Governing Councils of Universities, Colleges of Education and Polytechnics.
Inaugurating the newly constituted Governing Councils in Abuja, the Minister of Education, Prof Tahir Mamman said their appointment is part of government desire to improve education sector and re-engineer the governance structure of Nigerian tertiary institutions.
Prof Mamman further tasked the council members on the need to always comply by the laws of their respective institutions especially in the appointment of key officials among several others.
In their remarks, the Executive Secretaries of the National Universities Commission, National Board for Technical Education and National Commission of Colleges of Education urged the council members to join hands with government to reposition the nations tertiary institutions.
Responding on behalf of the Governing Councils, Chief Wole Olanipekun, indicated the resolve to deliver on their mandate without fear or favour.
It would be recalled that President Bola Tinubu had in June 2023, shortly after assuming office, dissolved the governing councils of federal tertiary institutions.
