About 12,539 teachers nationwide sat for the May diet of the Professional Qualifying Examination (PQE) of the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria which began on Thursday and ended on Saturday.
Speaking with newsmen at one of the examination centres in Abuja, the Director in charge of Certification and Licensing at the TRCN, Dr Jacinta Ezeahurukwe, said the focus of the exercise is to ensure only qualified teachers remained in the classroom across the country.
She said for the May diet examination, Benue state came top with 1,416 as the highest number of registered candidates followed by Osun state with 1,410 registration.
The Director further indicated that the impact of the exercise is being felt both nationally and internationally,citing the special status granted to Teachers from Nigeria by the UK government .
For some of the teachers that participated in the exercise, the PQE is the right way to go. The qualification examination which commenced in 2014 is conducted by the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) to test the professional competence of teachers.
