Over 14 Million Nigerians Use Banned Drug Substance – UNODC
The menace of drug abuse has now become a global epidemic, ravaging societies across the globe, especially its youths. According to the latest survey by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and the National Bureau of Statistics, prevalence rate of drug abuse in Nigeria is estimated at 14.4 per cent, an increase from its previous 5.6 per cent. At a ceremony to commemorate this year’s International Day Against Drug Abuse And Illicit Trafficking And Anti-Substance Abuse, first lady,Aisha Buhari represented by the wife of Vice President Dolapo Osinbajo called for more comprehensive approach to drug prevention and treatment in the country.
