A group of 60 Peoples Democratic Party Federal lawmakers under the aegis of Opposition lawmakers coalition has demanded the resignation of the acting national chairman of the PDP, Umar Damagun.
The call by the lawmakers which is coming ahead of the opposition party’s National executive Council meeting is also expected to pave the way for the emergence of an acting chairman from the north central region pending the conduct of the party’s convention.
They also demanded the withdrawal of the allegedly doctored list of Local Government Caretaker Committees of the party in Rivers and 10 other states.
Addressing journalists at a press conference on Monday in Abuja, spokesperson of the group Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere who was flanked by other leading members of the G60 lawmakers in the coalition said that they cannot be in a political party allegedly run by another political party.
Ugochinyere insisted that going by the Constitution of the PDP and in line with its zoning formula as enshrined in the constitution, it was the turn of the North Central to produce the Chairman of the party.
In a related development, the group also raised an alarm over the alleged plot to use the Federal High Court to secure a secret exparte order to legalize the extension of the tenure of LGA Chairmen in Rivers State by the former members of the State Assembly, who they said lost their legitimacy as lawmakers when they defected to the APC.
They called on the Chief Judge of Federal High Court, Justice Omotosho and other eminent Judges to be aware of these plots; stressing that those behind it are already celebrating that the exparte order is in their pocket awaiting release to the media even when the case has not been heard.
