Former Nigerian Military Head of State, Retired General, Yakubu Gowon has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu not to compromise the unity of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) but serve as an anchor for its growth.
He made the call in Abuja at the inauguration of the Academy of International Affairs, Nigeria a brainchild of former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Professor, Bolaji Akinyemi.
The founding father of the ECOWAS said patience and tolerance are key ingredients in keeping the regional bloc intact.
Speaking, Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by the Special Adviser on Political Affairs, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed said Nigeria is open to work with relevant stakeholders to enhance its foreign policy.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador, Yussuf Tuggar spoke on the importance of the think-tank to the nation’s foreign policy direction. It was the turn of the man of the moment Professor, Bolaji Akinyemi to say what inspired his dream for the Academy.
High point of the occasion was the induction of fellows and honourary fellows of the Academy of International Affairs, Nigeria.
