ECOWAS’ Story Of Community Distress: Myth Or Reality

Insecurity, poverty, hunger, neglect and abandonment is the story of the citizens of the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS.

Authority of Heads of State, Council of Ministers, Community Parliament and other affiliate bodies of ECOWAS, despite engaging on series of ordinary and extraordinary sessions seems to be bereaved of solutions to the core challenges ravaging the citizens.

Some members of the ECOWAS Community in Freetown, Sierra-Leone said despite the millions of dollars set aside for conferences, they are yet to feel the impact.

They also called on ECOWAS and its leaders to proffer solutions that will ameliorate the suffering of members of the community.

Some regional lawmakers described ECOWAS Parliament’s session as toothless Bulldog and a tea party where the community’s hard earn dollars are wasted.

The outgoing Speaker, Sidie Mohamed Tunis at the 2024 Extraordinary Session of the ECOWAS Parliament in Freetown, Sierra-Leone attested to some of the key challenges members of the sub-region are grappling with.

It is expected that with the latest concern by citizens of the regional body, the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS will re-strategize as well as redirect its focus to be in tandem with the vision and ideals of its founding fathers.
