Don’t Compromise ECOWAS Interest, Outgoing Speaker Charges 6th Legislature

This meeting of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Parliament in Freetown, Sierra-Leone marks the end of the fifth legislature.

It also brought to an end the reign of Sidie Mohamed Tunis as the Speaker of the Community Parliament.

As expectation is high on which candidate will be recommended by the Togolese government from its Parliament to fill the rotational slot, Mr. Tunis called on the sixth legislature to sustain the vision of its founding fathers.

Appreciating the regional lawmakers for their support throughout his tenure as Speaker, Tunis urged the sixth legislature not to relent in its efforts in ensuring that peace is restored in the community.

He also spoke on the resurgence of military coups in the sub-region and its adverse effects to democratic ideals.

The Speaker, further assured of his availability at all times if need be for consultation as a member of the sixth legislature.
