As part of efforts to move Nigeria’s Tax to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) from the current 10.8 per cent to 18 per cent, the Government has called on Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) to use needed technology in driving tax revenue to meet the benchmark.
The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun made this known at the FIRS Management Retreat in Abuja.
The Minister who emphasised that FIRS is a strategic agency of the government, also urged them to come up with quality ideas and policy that will expedite the economic growth and development of the country.
Some stakeholders spoke on what FIRS needs to do to achieve its mandate of improve revenue generation.
It was the turn of the man of the moment, the Executive Chairman, FIRS, Zacch Adedeji to speak on the agency’s new operational structure that is being put in place to eliminate confusion in the nation’s tax administration.
The theme of the two-day Management Retreat is, “Re-imagining Tax Administration for Equity and Economic Growth.”
